Bernadette RectoOwner and Director
Bernadette is a Fully Certified STOTT PILATES® Instructor and Instructor Trainer, known for her energy and dedication, bringing over 20 years of experience in movement, dance, and fitness industries.
A former professional dancer trained in ballet, jazz, modern, and tap, Bernadette transitioned into teaching after many years immersed in performance and physical conditioning. After sustaining an injury, she discovered Pilates — a turning point that sparked a deep passion and led her to pursue professional training in 2005.
Since 2011, she has proudly owned and operated Pilates by Bernadette, Pickering’s premier boutique Pilates studio — a thriving space where she works with clients of all ages and fitness levels, from rehabilitation to athletic conditioning. She strongly believes that fitness should be fun, not a chore.
As a lifelong learner, Bernadette continually attends workshops and courses worldwide to explore a variety of movement modalities. She also shares her expertise as a STOTT PILATES® Instructor Trainer, teaching students aspiring to become Pilates instructors at the Merrithew Corporate Training Center and Host Training Centers, where she mentors and guides them through certification courses.
One of the highlights of her Pilates career was when a Member of Parliament from Prince Edward Island visited her studio in Pickering to experience Pilates firsthand. He later shared his positive experience during a live parliamentary session broadcast nationwide, telling fellow members how much he enjoyed his visit, how he embraced Pilates, and how it emphasized the vital link between exercise, mental health, and overall well-being.
In April 2019, Bernadette was honored with the Pink Tea Party International Women’s Day Award by a Canadian Member of Parliament for her significant contributions to the Pickering community.

Jayna Corbett

Jayna and her partner — and husband — Alex Rivas, have competed in numerous Latin dance competitions, earning finalist spots in the pro bachata division at events such as the Toronto Bachata Festival, Toronto Salsa Festival, and Canada Salsa Congress. Their high-energy performances have made them a standout duo in the Latin dance community, with appearances at weddings, festivals, and corporate events across Canada.
For the past several years, Jayna has been a valued and beloved instructor at Pilates by Bernadette, bringing the passion and precision of her dance background into every Pilates session. A fully certified Balanced Body Pilates Instructor, she’s known for her warm energy, clear instruction, and dedication to helping clients move with strength and confidence. Jayna also teaches Latin and line dance, and holds a Zumba® certification.
